When I first read this list I was in shock...Then I planned a course of action to be Proactive! The numbers are staggering! Just look at the amount of carbon dioxide emitted...We all need to help fight global warming. Please don't just play the regret it and forget it with the information- Take Action, Create awareness, and be part of the solution called Global Cooling!

First The Numbers:

Automobile emissions account for more than 20 percent of U.S. global warming emissions each year. Car companies could do more and it's time that they do. Check out our facts about cars and global warming and then take action.

Number of registered vehicles in the U.S. That's almost one per person!

Average amount of gasoline consumed by one U.S. car each year.

Amount of carbon dioxide emitted from one U.S. car each year.

Number of trees needed to absorb the 12,000 pounds of carbon dioxide emitted from one U.S. car each year.

Number of miles U.S. cars and light trucks traveled in 2004. That's the equivalent of taking 10 million trips to the moon.

Percent U.S. population is of the world population.

Percent of world's automobiles in the United States.

Percent that the United States contributes to the world's automotive carbon dioxide emissions.

Number of car companies that support a national cap on global warming pollution. They are Ford, General Motors, DaimlerChrysler and Toyota.

Number of bills passed by Congress to cut global warming pollution.

Every Sunday, 500,000 trees are used to produce the 88% of newspapers that are never recycled.

Recycling a single run of the Sunday New York Times would save 75,000 trees.

Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper each year. About 680 pounds per person.

Offices discard over 4 million tons of office paper every year. That is enough to build a 12 foot high wall of paper from New York to California.

Americans use 15 billion paper cups per year.

Starbucks uses 1.5 billion paper cups per year.

For each 500 phone books recycled, we save 7,000 gallons of water; 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space; 17 to 31 trees; and 4,100 kilowatts of electricity, enough power to serve an average home for 6 months.
